Alicia Crew, Director of Campus
Recreation
644-0553
Alicia came back to FSU in 1977 from the faculty ranks of Newcomb
College of Tulane University to serve as FSU's first Aquatics Director.
She had previously served as a graduate assistant at FSU before
going to work in New Orleans. Alicia was named Associate Director
of Campus Recreation in 1989 just before the Leach Center was completed
and opened. In 2003, Alicia took over the top spot as Director upon
the retirement of longtime Director Paul Dirks. Alicia works with
many areas of Campus Recreation and teasingly explains she "did
whatever Paul didn't want to do!" during her 14-year term as Associate
Director. She worked with Paul to plan and design the Leach Center
and has done private consulting in aquatics liability and facility
design. Currently she also teaches as an adjunct professor in the
FSU Department of Recreation and Leisure Services Administration.
While in aquatics Alicia coached and taught age-group and collegiate
swimming and coached synchronized swimming for over 20 years. She
served multiple terms as president of the National Institute for
Creative Aquatics, has been a lifelong member of AAHPERD, and member
of NIRSA for over ten years. Alicia has participated in the NIRSA
School of Recreation Sport Management and the Executive Institute.
She has B.S. and M.S. degrees in Physical Education and Movement
Science from FSU.

hurricane!" |
