PARTICIPATION
Individual Participants & Team Participation
A. Number of Teams, Co-Rec Participation
Participants may play for only one single gender team (men's, fraternity, women's, or sorority team) in any one sport. Therefore, a participant may NOT participate in both the fraternity league and men's D-II league, for example. Male and female participants may also play for one co-rec team in the same sport (in addition to their men's or women's team). During summer sessions and other periods when space is limited, participants may be restricted to one team per sport - an open league team, a single gender team, or a co-rec team.
FAIR PLAY
Appeals of Administrative Decisions
An individual or team may appeal a decision made by the Intramural Sports administrative staff regarding his/her/its dismissal from league or tournament play, suspension from Intramural Sports, or implementation of a probationary period for rule violations.
A. Appeals Process
Such appeals shall be first heard by the Associate Director of Campus Recreation. Intramural Sports or Campus Recreation suspensions shall not be lifted or postponed during the appeal process, but may be reduced following the decision regarding the appeal. No previous intramural games or matches will be replayed as a result of an upheld appeal. Conversely, the Associate Director may decide to levy a penalty that is greater than that originally imposed by the Intramural Sports administrative staff. Intramural Sports and Campus Recreation staff may consult with the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities and other University personnel during any part of the decision-making process.
ORGANIZATION
Ready to Play and Game Time
C. Delayed Start Time
At the discretion of the IM staff, the start time of a game may be delayed when staff has prior knowledge of late arriving players due to other intramural conflicts such as back-to-back games or concurrent participation in other intramural sports and related travel time.
D. Optional Grace Period
At the discretion of the IM staff, based on time and space availability, and with the approval of the opposing team captain, a team may be offered a 10-minute grace period from the original start time to obtain the minimum number of players required to participate or otherwise become ready to play. In such cases, the team that is ready to play retains the option to decline the grace period to take a win by default or forfeit. If the captain of the team that is ready to play decides to wait and play the game, both teams must accept the result of the game. If the team shows up during the additional time period, game time will be reduced by the number of minutes the team was late for the game. For games with timed periods, the length of each period will be reduced equally. If the team is still not ready to participate after the additional time period has expired, the game will be defaulted or forfeited as described in sections II and III. No additional time is permitted.
Forfeits
G. Team Forfeit Fine
The forfeit fine applies only to teams registered for non-fee based sports in which officials are assigned to officiate the contest or when 3 or more people comprise the standard number of players to participate for a team. The captain under which the team was originally registered, unless changed through written documentation, will be assessed the fine. For sports with 5 or more players comprising the standard number of players to participate for a team in the sport, the fine is $30. For teams of 4 or less players, the fine is $20. This fine will be assessed to the captain's university account via FSU Student Financial Services approximately 72 hours after the forfeit unless an appeal is filed. The fine is payable through the University Cashier's Office located in 1500 University Center A. Failure to pay the forfeit fine can result in a hold on a student's class registration or reception of a graduate's diploma until properly paid.
FACILITIES
Guest Pass - Outdoor Facilities
Use of outdoor recreational facilities (Rec SportsPlex and Main Campus Fields) is restricted to current, fee-paying FSU students, faculty, and full-time staff. FSUCard is required. Current FSU students, faculty, and full-time staff may sponsor a non-student or non-staff member to use the Rec SportsPlex or Main Campus Fields for open recreation (pick-up games and free play) by purchasing an outdoor facility pass. Passes are sold in advance in the Intramural Sports Office in 1035 Tully Gym during normal business hours (weekdays from 8:30 am until 5:30 pm) at the rate of $5 per visitor per day. To purchase a single-day pass, the FSU student, faculty, or full-time staff member shall present proper FSUCard and indicate the name of the guest for the pass. The pass and photo ID are required of the guest for entry at either facility. Guests caught using a facility without a guest pass will be required to vacate the facility immediately as directed by FSU Campus Recreation staff members.
