Points are awarded in individual/dual sports at the completion of the sport's tournament. Teams are ranked based on the round the team's best player is eliminated. For cases in which teams are ranked based on the best finish of two or more players, teams are ranked based the average of these player's finishes. When two or more teams are tied, the team with the individual who advanced furthest in the tournament will be awarded the higher place. A tiebreaking exception for teams with an individual forfeiting or defaulting a match is listed below.
Forfeits & Defaults In final awarding of points for the sport or event, teams with a default (losing by default) that are tied with other teams fall out of a tie with those teams to the next lower place. In final awarding of points for the sport or event, teams with a forfeit that are tied with other teams fall out of a tie with those teams to the next lower place. When a team with a forfeit is tied with a team with a default, the team with a forfeit will fall out of a tie with that team to the next lower place. Required Number of Participants Players must participate in at least one match to count towards a team's required number of participants for a sport. Thus, teams that have less than the required number of players participating will drop below all other teams with the required number of players participating in the final ranking regardless of their finish. Combined Individual/Dual Events & Tournaments For tournaments in which fraternity or sorority teams or players compete in a bracket with both greek and independent participants, points will be awarded based on the round in which they are eliminated regardless of whether a greek team/player or an independent team/player eliminates them and regardless of their standing versus other greek teams/players. For example, if an greek team/player is eliminated in the semifinals, the team/player will be recognized only as a Final 4 participant for the awarding points, even if their finish is the best among the greek teams/players (independent wins tournament). Basically, the same procedure as shown in the above example applies to combined tournaments. |
