TEAM SPORTS
Points are awarded in team sports following the completion of the postseason tournament. Playoff teams are ranked according to their finish in the postseason tournament. Teams that do not qualify for the playoffs are ranked based on their regular season record. Ties are broken for playoff qualification only and not for the awarding of points. Exceptions for teams losing by default or forfeit are detailed in Section 6 of the Intramural Sports Handbook. Please link to our Greek Team Sport Scoring Example for a 2-league, 12-team example.

TEAM SPORT PLAYOFF QUALIFICATION TIEBREAKER
Ties for playoff positions are broken according to the following structure:
A. Best won-loss record of games among the tied teams.
B. Fewest points given up in games against the tied teams.
C. Most points scored in games against the tied teams.
D. Best won-loss record of games against common opponents.
E. Fewest points given up in games against common opponents.
F. Most points scored in games against common opponents.
G. Fewest points given up in all games.
H. Most points scored in all games.
I. Best won-loss record against each team, beginning with the first place team and moving successively lower in the standings.
J. Coin toss.
When 3 or more teams are tied and a single tiebreaker can determine the seeding of all teams, it will be implemented to determine all seeds. However when 3 or more teams are tied and a tiebreaker eliminates one of the teams from the tie but leaves 2 or more still tied, the order for the remaining tied teams will be determined by restarting the tiebreaker procedure with tiebreaker A for those teams. See the Greek Team Sport Scoring Example for details.

Defaults & Forfeits
Teams with a default (losing by default) that are tied with other teams (based on record) fall out of a tie with those teams to the next lower place. For points scored or points given up tiebreakers, teams winning by default or forfeit will have their points totals multiplied by the appropriate coefficient to adjust their point totals to reflect a point total based on a equivalent number of games played among the other tied teams.

Tiebreaker Points Adjustments
Team Points Given Up Total Average Points Given Up Per Game
x Number of Games
(Most Games Played By A Tied Team)
Adjusted Total
Padres 12, 10, 14 36 12 x 3 36
Brewers 7, 18, FF 25 12.5 x 3 37.5

INDIVIDUAL/DUAL SPORTS
Points are awarded in individual/dual sports at the completion of the sport's tournament. Teams are ranked based on the round the team's best player is eliminated. For cases in which teams are ranked based on the best finish of two or more players, teams are ranked based the average of these player's finishes. When two or more teams are tied, the team with the individual who advanced furthest in the tournament will be awarded the higher place. Tiebreaking exceptions for teams with an individual forfeiting or defaulting a match are shown on the Greek Individual/Dual Sport Scoring Example, a 16-player tournament example.

SPECIAL EVENTS
Special meets and events have unique point structures that are outlined in Section 6 of the Intramural Sports Handbook.

PENALTIES
Penalty points are assessed for various rules violations including but not limited to forfeits, multiple defaults, and failures to attend mandatory captains meetings.
