FSU Campus Recreation
Summer Noles
2007-08 UPDATES
The Intramural Sports Handbook is revised each summer with additions, deletions, and modifications to the policies & procedures, bylaws, and sportsmanship criteria. Listed below are the major changes to each section of the handbook. Additional minor changes, such as rewording of passages, are not shown. Please browse through the complete Intramural Sports Handbook for additional rules and regulations regarding Intramural Sports at Florida State University.

Section 1: Campus Recreation
No major revisions for 2007-08.

Section 2: Policies and Procedures
Equipment Checkout
Sports equipment is available for checkout to participants during activity hours at Intramural Sports facilities. Valid FSUCard is required for short-term checkout of such equipment. The Intramural Sports Office also has a limited amount of equipment available for checkout to FSU students, faculty, staff, and registered groups for use within other Florida State University facilities or at FSU-sanctioned events. Priority is given to Campus Recreation related events. Requests for equipment must be received in the Intramural Sports Office at least 48 hours prior to the time of equipment pick-up. Valid ID required. Additional restrictions may apply.

Forgotten ID Policy
In the event that a participant is unable to present his or her FSUCard at the game site for check-in, the participant may be permitted to sign-in by providing additional identifiable information. Each intramural participant, regardless of sport, will be allowed one such instance (of forgetting his/her FSUCard) per academic year. The participant's signature on a form acknowledging this policy and verifying the information supplied may also be required. An academic year ends at the conclusion of the spring semester for the purposes of this policy. Just because a participant is signed in without his/her FSUCard does NOT mean that person is legal to play. If it is determined that the given information or FSUCard number is invalid, the game may be forfeited for use of an ineligible player.

Guest Pass - Outdoor Facilities
Use of outdoor recreational facilities (Rec SportsPlex and Main Campus Fields) is restricted to current, fee-paying FSU students, faculty, and full-time staff. Proper ID is required. Current FSU students, faculty, and full-time staff may sponsor a non-student or non-staff member to use the Rec SportsPlex or Main Campus Fields for open recreation (pick-up games and free play) by purchasing an outdoor facility pass from an FSU Campus Recreation staff member at either facility. A guest pass does NOT allow for participation in any intramural game, match, or event. Guest passes are available for $3 per person per day at the field house check-in windows at each facility. Proper photo ID is required of the sponsor and the guest to purchase the pass. Valid users may sponsor a maximum of one non-student/non-staff user per day. Guests caught using a facility without a guest pass will be required to purchase a guest pass for $5 ($3 plus $2 late fee) or must vacate the facility immediately as directed by FSU Campus Recreation staff members.

ID Policy
Each participant must present his or her current, valid FSUCard prior to each game / match of participation in all IM sports and events. Campus Recreation staff may conduct random in-game identification checks. Therefore, each participant shall be able to present his / her FSUCard at the game site upon request. Participants may also be required to supply additional identifiable information in order to verify their identity for participation in an intramural game or event. Just because a participant is signed in without his/her FSUCard does NOT mean that person is legal to play. If it is determined that the given information or FSUCard number is invalid, the game may be forfeited for use of an ineligible player.

Unauthorized Use of Campus Recreation Facilities
Patrons who enter a closed facility (Tully Gym, Main Campus Fields, Rec SportsPlex) are subject to immediate suspension from all Intramural Sports activities and banishment from all Campus Recreation facilities for a period of up to one year. Teams in violation of this policy will be immediately dropped from any leagues in which they are actively participating. Additional charges may be filed with the Student Judicial Board and/or FSU Police at the discretion of Campus Recreation staff and Florida State University officials.

Section 3: Intramural Bylaws
Article I: Individual Participant Eligibility
Section I: General Guidelines
C. Non-Currently Enrolled Students During Summer Terms
During the summer term, non-currently enrolled students may purchase a Student Summer Rec Pass at the Leach Center or a Summer Sports Pass from Intramural Sports to become eligible for participation in Intramural Sports. Proof of registration for the prior spring's classes and enrollment for the fall semester is required to purchase the pass. Additional restrictions may apply.
D. Faculty and Staff
Active, salaried faculty and full-time staff members, classified as A&P or USPS, are eligible for participation in Intramural Sports. An hourly-wage, non-student staff member with OPS job classification is not eligible.
G. Proof of Identification
Participants must present a currently validated FSUCard in order to participate in all Intramural Sports games and events.

Section II: Restricted Participants
A. Current Student-Athletes
Student athletes who are receiving any assistance by way of athletic scholarships shall be eligible for all intramural sports except the sport or related sport for which they are receiving aid. Such aid is defined as follows: Any aid, assistance, or benefit given to a student for his/her participation as a player in any varsity sport that is not available to the general student population. This includes, but is not limited to, scholarship, varsity lockers, towels, green fees, apparel, footwear, equipment, etc. Any athlete who appears on any roster with the varsity team (including walk-ons and redshirt players) is considered a student-athlete under this section. This section remains in effect for as long as the student receives this aid, whether or not they continue to play or practice with a varsity team.
B. Current Practice Squad Members
A student who is a member of the practice squad for a Florida State University varsity team is eligible for intramural competition in that and related sports during the current academic year. Teams affected by this rule are limited to one practice squad member player on their team roster and must compete in the highest division available. Practice squad member players also count against the sport club player limit outlined in subsection F (limited to one additional sport club player on the roster for team sports, none for sports with 4 or less required players).

Section III: Ejected or Suspended Participants
C. Reinstatement Procedure Timeline
Steps 1 and 2 of this procedure must be completed within 7 days of the date of the incident to avoid further automatic penalties as outlined below. If these 2 steps are not completed during the 7-day grace period, any additional automatic penalties will only be lifted once all 3 steps of the reinstatement procedure are completed.
D. Failure to Complete Reinstatement Procedure
An ejected person who does not complete the required steps in the reinstatement procedure outlined above remains ineligible for all Intramural Sports leagues, events, and activities for the remainder of his/her collegiate career. This "lifetime suspension" from all IM activities carries over from academic year to academic year until the ejected person completes the outlined procedure to regain his/her eligibility. The ejected person's name will be removed from the list once the reinstatement procedure is completed.
E. Unsportsmanlike Incidents
For incidents deemed unsportsmanlike, when the ejected person does not complete the required steps in the reinstatement procedure within the designated time period as outlined above, the ejected person remains ineligible for all Intramural Sports leagues, events, and activities and is subject to additional penalties including revocation of access to other Campus Recreation programs, services, and facilities including, but not limited to, the Leach Student Recreation Center and the FSU Reservation. Such incidents may also be referred to the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities, FSU Police, or University Judical Officer for further action. For grossly unsportsmanlike incidents and unsportsmanlike incidents that occur within 7 days of the final day of class of the semester, these additional penalties and referrals may be implemented immediately following the ejection, overriding the 7-day grace period for reinstatement as outlined above.

Article II: Organization Eligibility / Divisions
Section I: Greek Organizations
The policies in this section are in addition to the general eligibility requirements set forth in Article I for all intramural sports participants.
A. Official Organization Roster
Official rosters for organizations competing in the fraternity or sorority intramural sports leagues will be comprised of those organizational members properly registered through the FSU Office of Greek Life and the FSU Student Activities Office. Policies and procedures established and administered by the FSU Student Activities Office, the Office of Greek Life, and its affiliated councils/organizations will govern the registration process. No additions or deletions to an organization's roster may be made through the Intramural Sports Office.

Section IV. Points Breakdown
D. Division I League Bonus
Men's teams completing participation in Division I for team sports with such designation available will receive a bonus of 20 points added to their score for that sport. Teams starting the regular season in Division I but demoted to Division I-AA for the playoffs will receive team points based on their finish in the Division I-AA playoffs and will not receive the Division I Bonus. Also, teams will not receive the Division I Bonus if the Division I qualifying sport is not among the top 6 of 8 major sports for that team.
E. Division II Level Playoff Teams
Division I-AA teams who are demoted to the Division II playoffs will receive team points based on their finish in the Division II playoffs MINUS 20 points for participation in the lower division playoff bracket.  For example, the Division II playoff champion will receive 80 points, 2nd place 65 points, Final 4 55 points, and Elite 8 45 points.  However, teams may never receive less than 40 bonus points in a team sport.  Therefore, Sweet 16 and below in the Division II playoffs will all receive 40 points.  Teams will not be deducted the 20 points for Division II playoff participation if the qualifying sport is not among the top 4 of 6 major sports for that team.  The same points structure will apply to those Division I co-rec teams dropped to the Division II co-rec playoffs.
F. Division III Level Teams
All Division III teams will receive 40 bonus points for the sport. No additional points based on the team's finish in a Division III playoff tournament will be awarded. Division III teams promoted to Division II for the playoffs will qualify for the Division II points structure.
