Alcohol
Florida State University PROHIBITS possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages on University property. This includes the Rec SportsPlex, Main Campus Fields, Leach Center, and Tully Gym. If a team, either its participants or spectators, is found to possess or consume alcoholic beverages at a sponsored event, that team may be forfeited from the event and suspended from all Intramural activities. If the team, either participants or spectators, fail to comply with the request of the supervisors, FSU Police will be called to handle the situation. For further information on the Florida State University alcohol policy, please refer to the General Bulletin for the complete policy.
Captains Meetings
The team captain (or representative, if captain is unavailable) must attend the pre-season captains meeting for designated sports. Meeting dates, times, and locations are available on the intramural sports planner and posted on signage near the registration area in the Intramural Sports Office. There are no excused absences for captains meetings. Teams that fail to have a representative attend the meeting will be dropped from the league. Teams competing in the fraternity, sorority, or independent points standings are subject to a point-penalty for failure to attend the captains meeting if and when their team is later placed into a league from the waiting list.
Captain's Responsibilities
The team captain is responsible for informing his/her team, its participants and associates, of the applicable policies and procedures governing intramural sports and the rules specific to the sport in which the team is participating. Campus Recreation and Intramural Sports utilizes the team captain to communicate official business include policy, procedure, and bylaw concerns and violations and sportsmanship-related issues. It is the responsibility of the team captain to communicate such information in a timely manner to the team's participants and associates. Captains are urged to notify all players and fans that drugs, alcohol, and tobacco are prohibited at all intramural facilities and that participating under the influence can result in player or fan ejection, team disqualification, and further disciplinary actions by the University Judicial Office.
Chairperson's Responsibilities
Organizations or groups may designate an IM chairperson to represent the group in its interactions with the Campus Recreation and Intramural Sports administrative staff. In such instances, the department and program administrative staff will use the chairperson as the primary contact to communicate any policy, procedure, or bylaw concerns or violations, sportsmanship issues, and other official business. It is the responsibility of the chairperson to communicate such information in a timely manner to the organization's membership, team's participants, and associates. The team captain for an affected sport will then serve as a secondary contact.
Championship Awards
Winners of all-campus championship games and matches receive an FSU Intramural Sports championship award. In team sports, the number of awards given to all-campus championship teams may not exceed 150% of the standard number of participants needed to field a regulation team. The number of awards is rounded up to the nearest whole number. For example, in 10-person softball, 15 awards may be given to the all-campus champion. In 7-on-7 flag football, the maximum number of awards given would be 11. Only those persons listed on the team roster will be eligible to receive an award. In individual or dual sports, only the champions will receive awards. FSU Intramural Champion awards are available only to all-campus champions in each division (men's, women's, and co-rec [when available]). In team sports, league champions may or may not receive awards. In individual or dual sports, champions of the advanced bracket receive awards; lower brackets do not. In special events and meets, only individual class or event winners receive an all-campus championship award. Members of the team champions in such meets (swimming, wrestling, track) do not receive all-campus championship awards.
Equipment Checkout
Sports equipment is available for checkout to participants during activity hours at Intramural Sports facilities. Valid FSUCard is required for short-term checkout of such equipment. The Intramural Sports Office also has a limited amount of equipment available for checkout to FSU students, faculty, staff, and registered groups for use within other Florida State University facilities or at FSU-sanctioned events. Priority is given to Campus Recreation related events. Requests for equipment must be received in the Intramural Sports Office at least 48 hours prior to the time of equipment pick-up. Valid ID required. Additional restrictions may apply.
Forgotten ID Policy
In the event that a participant is unable to present his or her FSUCard at the game site for check-in, the participant may be permitted to sign-in by providing additional identifiable information. Each intramural participant, regardless of sport, will be allowed one such instance (of forgetting his/her FSUCard) per academic year. The participant's signature on a form acknowledging this policy and verifying the information supplied may also be required. An academic year ends at the conclusion of the spring semester for the purposes of this policy. Just because a participant is signed in without his/her FSUCard does NOT mean that person is legal to play. If it is determined that the given information or FSUCard number is invalid, the game may be forfeited for use of an ineligible player.
Guest Pass - Outdoor Facilities
Use of outdoor recreational facilities (Rec SportsPlex and Main Campus Fields) is restricted to current, fee-paying FSU students, faculty, and full-time staff. Proper ID is required. Current FSU students, faculty, and full-time staff may sponsor a non-student or non-staff member to use the Rec SportsPlex or Main Campus Fields for open recreation (pick-up games and free play) by purchasing an outdoor facility pass from an FSU Campus Recreation staff member at either facility. A guest pass does NOT allow for participation in any intramural game, match, or event. Guest passes are available for $3 per person per day at the field house check-in windows at each facility. Proper photo ID is required of the sponsor and the guest to purchase the pass. Valid users may sponsor a maximum of one non-student/non-staff user per day. Guests caught using a facility without a guest pass will be required to purchase a guest pass for $5 ($3 plus $2 late fee) or must vacate the facility immediately as directed by FSU Campus Recreation staff members.
Headgear & Safety Equipment
Campus Recreation strongly encourages the use of personal safety equipment when appropriate. While personal safety headgear and other safety equipment is acceptable, certain other forms of headgear are not permitted. For indoor sports, prohibited headgear consists of any hats, bandanas, baseball caps, winter/wool hats, and any other such similar headgear. The following pieces of headgear are permissible: yamikas, turbins and one piece head/sweat bands that do not have to be tied. This also applies to outdoor sports with the following exceptions: winter/wool hats and unknotted bandanas are also allowed. Caps are permitted for participants of tennis, golf, softball, kickball, and ultimate frisbee only. The officials and supervisors on duty have the authority to disallow any participant from participating which they feel would endanger the person wearing the headgear or his/her opponents. Protests involving headgear will not be accepted by the Intramural Sports Office.
ID Policy
Each participant must present his or her current, valid FSUCard prior to each game / match of participation in all IM sports and events. Campus Recreation staff may conduct random in-game identification checks. Therefore, each participant shall be able to present his / her FSUCard at the game site upon request. Participants may also be required to supply additional identifiable information in order to verify their identity for participation in an intramural game or event. Just because a participant is signed in without his/her FSUCard does NOT mean that person is legal to play. If it is determined that the given information or FSUCard number is invalid, the game may be forfeited for use of an ineligible player.
Insurance
Florida State University does not provide insurance coverage for any injury or accident related to participation in intramural sports or activities or any "practice" or "free play". Each individual participant should provide his/her own coverage either through family policies or through the student accident and sickness insurance available through the Thagard Student Health Center. All injuries, including those which might occur during "free play", should be immediately reported to the intramural supervisor on duty. The supervisor will handle the incident according to FSU Campus Recreation and Florida State University emergency policies and procedures.
Jewelry
In most sports, jewelry is not allowed to be worn by any participant during a game or event. Specific restrictions are listed in each sport's rules. Furthermore, the officials and supervisors on duty have the authority to disallow any participant from participating which they feel would endanger the person wearing the jewelry or his/her opponents. Protests involving jewelry will not be accepted by the Intramural Sports Office.
League & Event Registration
Intramural sports league and tournament registration information is released approximately two months prior to each semester. Such information is available to interested parties in the Intramural Sports Office and online at the FSU Campus Recreation web site. Registration periods are subject to change; participants are encouraged to check in the Intramural Sports Office or online at the FSU Campus Recreation web site for updates.
I. Registration Periods
Entries for all sports are accepted during the assigned registration periods on a space-available basis. Registrations after the assigned registration period ends (late registrations) may or may not be accepted and are not guaranteed placement into a league or tournament.
II. Team Entries
Registration for most team sports occurs online via the intramural sports web site beginning at 12 Noon on the first day of the registration period as noted on the intramural sports planner. The start time is subject to change and will be clearly noted on the intramural sports planner and online in association with the registration application. The end of the registration period is noted online in association with the registration application. Online registration requires the team captain to have an established login and password for the Secure Applications Menu of the fsu.edu web site (available free to all students, faculty, and staff). To enter, a team captain or team representative should select a game day and time for their team from the available game days and times as listed online. FSU Intramural Sports uses instant scheduling for its team sports in which a team will play one game per week on the day and at the time for which the team has registered throughout the regular season. To select a spot in a league, a team captain must supply a team name, captain's name, daytime phone number, and valid email address. Additionally, an alternate captain's name and contact information may be required. To hold the team's registered position in a league, a team captain (or team representative) must attend the sport's captains meeting (designated team sports only). The location, date, and time of the required captains meeting will be provided at the time of registration and is typically also listed on the intramural sports planner.
For those sports without online registration available, registration will occur in the Intramural Sports Office, 136 Tully Gym, beginning at 12 Noon on the first day of the registration period as noted on the intramural sports planner.
All late registrations occur in the Intramural Sports Office, 136 Tully Gym, beginning at the conclusion of the respective sport's captains meeting, or at the end of the assigned registration period for sports without a captains meeting.
III. Wait List
Once the allotted league space is full, teams may sign-up on a sport's waiting list. Waiting list teams will be placed into a league when teams are dropped due to failure to complete the captains requirements or when a team is dropped from competition following an unexcused regular season forfeit.
IV. Greek Organizations
Fraternity and sorority teams are not required to register for designated team sports, however team captains must attend the sport's captains meeting to hold their spot in the league. Teams select game times during the greek chairperson's meeting nearest to the start of the season. Selection order is determined by the team's overall finish in the sport during the previous year.
V. Individual Entries
Online registration is utilized for participants to enter individual/dual sports, certain special events, and select team sports as noted on the intramural sports planner. To enter, individuals should complete the online registration form with the information required. Information includes participant name, partner's name (when appropriate), team name (when appropriate), daytime phone number, email address, division, level of competition, and playing day and time preferences (when possible).
VI. Fee-Based Sports
For those sports in which a fee is required, registration will take place in the Intramural Sports Office, 136 Tully Gym, beginning at 12 Noon on the first day of the registration period and ending at 5:00 pm on the last day of the registration period as noted on the intramural sports planner. Payment is required at the time of registration. Cash or check. Payee of check varies by sport; please contact the IM Sports Office for information.

Participant Surveys
Prior to, during, and following select Intramural Sports seasons, participants may be contacted by phone or email with a request to complete a survey regarding their participation in various aspects of the Intramural Sports program. Participation in a survey is optional and a decision to not respond does not negatively affect future participation in the program. Participants may always provide feedback to the Intramural Sports staff via forms available at the game site, via the Intramural Sports web site, or in-person in the Intramural Sports Office in 136 Tully Gym.

II. Co-Rec League and Open League Teams
Playoff qualification for Division I and Division II of these leagues will follow the procedure set forth for the Men's Division I and Men's Division II teams. Promotions and demotions will occur between these two divisions, with no Division I-AA or Division III playoff brackets.
III. Other Independent League Teams
Women's league teams will qualify for a single tournament bracket, respectively, unless the number of teams warrants a division of the tournament bracket. In the event of such a division, playoff qualification will follow the procedure set forth for Men's Division I and Division II teams with promotions and demotions occurring between these two divisions.
IV. Greek Organizations
Fraternity and sorority teams are seeded for the playoffs based on their regular season records. A comprehensive overview of the greek points system and playoff qualification is available in the Greek Annual Championship Standings section of the Intramural Sports web site.
V. Playoff Draw Meetings
Men's independent, women's, and co-rec teams select their playoff game dates and times at a playoff draw meeting conducted typically during the fourth week of the regular season. The team captain or a team representative will have the opportunity to survey the entire playoff bracket with predetermined game dates and times for all rounds of play. Representatives will select their playoff position accordingly. Selection order is determined by sportsmanship rating, then regular season record. Teams not in attendance at the playoff draw meeting will be placed into the bracket at random. Once the bracket is set, no reschedules are permitted during the playoffs except in the event of inclement weather or conflicts created by the Intramural Sports Office.
Points Standings
Fraternities, sororities, and independent teams accumulate points based on their finishes in sports leagues and tournaments throughout the fall and spring semesters towards the Annual Team Championship Trophies. Registration information for the annual team titles, the point scale for each sport or event, and any penalities for forfeits or other rule violations are available in the Intramural Sports Office and online in the Annual Championship Standings section of the Intramural Sports web site.
Rainouts
In the event of inclement weather, teams should call the IM RainLine at 850-645-RAIN (850-644-7246) for information regarding the status of their game. Games or matches postponed due to inclement weather during the regular season are generally NOT rescheduled. Playoff games affected by inclement weather will be rescheduled by the Intramural Sports staff as soon as possible. In the event of bad weather during the playoffs, team captains should visit the Intramural Sports web site or contact the Intramural Sports office during the next business day for reschedule information.
Reschedules - Team Sports
I. Restrictions
Teams may reschedule regular season games or matches on a time- and space-available basis by contacting the Intramural Sports Office. Teams must initiate any reschedules by the first Friday following the opening night of regular season games (end of the first week of the regular season), unless a later date is announced. NO reschedules will be permitted following this period.
II. Procedure
To reschedule a regular season game, the team captain initiating the reschedule (captain A) must obtain from the Intramural Sports office a list of possible reschedule days and times and the opposing captains (captain B) contact information. Captain A must then arrange a time with captain B to meet in the IM Sports office and finalize the reschedule plans. Both team captains must agree to a new time and sign the reschedule form. If the two captains can not agree on a new game time, the schedule will revert to how it is written. NOTE: Reschedules are done on a first-come, first-served basis. Just because you have a list of days and times does not insure that those days and times will be available when you return to the IM Sports Office.
III. Playoff Games
Once the playoff brackets have been set, playoff games will NOT be rescheduled unless postponed due to inclement weather or when certain conflicts within Intramural Sports arise (i.e., teams playing in multiple sports tournaments simultaneously, participants playing on 2 teams in the same sport [co-rec and 1 other team]). Teams should alert the Intramural Sports staff when such conflicts may arise. The Intramural Sports staff will initiate reschedules in the event of rain and, when possible, these noted scheduling conflicts.
Reschedules - Individual / Dual Sports
I. Restrictions
Individuals may attempt to reschedule an individual/dual tournament match by contacting the Intramural Sports Office by no later than 12 Noon of the day of the scheduled match for match times after 5:00 pm. Attempts to reschedule matches scheduled before 5:00 pm must be completed 24 hours prior to the scheduled match time. Individual who wish to reschedule an individual/dual tournament match originally scheduled for a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday, must contact the Intramural Sports Office by 12 Noon of the previous business day.
II. Procedure
To reschedule a tournament match, the individual initiating the reschedule (player A) must obtain from the Intramural Sports office the opponent's (player B) contact information. Player A must then arrange a time with player B to play the match on their own. The match must be completed prior to the time of the next round's match as indicated on the tournament bracket. If the two players can not agree on a new game time, the schedule will revert to how it is written. Player A may be required to default the match if the new game time cannot be arranged. Players attempting to reschedule matches should contact the facility to ensure its availability during the proposed reschedule time.
Schedules
Schedules for most intramural events will be ready approximately 48 hours after the entry period has ended. Changes to this policy will be announced during the entry period. Unexpected delays will be announced at the FSU Campus Recreation web site. Team captains (team sports) and individuals (individual/dual sports) are responsible for acquiring their schedule(s). Regular season and playoff schedules are available online at the FSU Campus Recreation web site. Print copies may be viewed in the Intramural Sports Office. Schedules will NOT be given out over the phone. The Intramural Sports staff is NOT responsible for notifying teams that schedules are ready.
Tobacco
The use of tobacco products is prohibited at all indoor intramural activities and at all intramural activities at the Rec SportsPlex and Main Campus Fields. A team, participant, fan or spectator caught using tobacco products at intramural events at these facilities will be immediately asked to leave the venue. The game in which the violator is participating (playing/watching) will not continue until that person removes him/herself. Failure for the team captain to assist the Intramural Staff in helping to remove the violator, may result in a default of the contest.
Unauthorized Use of Campus Recreation Facilities
Patrons who enter a closed facility (Tully Gym, Main Campus Fields, Rec SportsPlex) are subject to immediate suspension from all Intramural Sports activities and banishment from all Campus Recreation facilities for a period of up to one year. Teams in violation of this policy will be immediately dropped from any leagues in which they are actively participating. Additional charges may be filed with the Student Judicial Board and/or FSU Police at the discretion of Campus Recreation staff and Florida State University officials.
Wait List
Teams are placed on a sport's wait list when their requested league, day, and/or time is full or if they wish to register for a sport after the registration period has ended.
I. Preregistered Wait List Team Captains Requirements
Wait list team captains who have properly registered during the sport's established registration period must complete the preseason captains requirements. The team captain (or a team representative) must also attend the wait list session of the respective sport's captains meeting (immediately follows the rules and policies session of the sport's captains meeting). A captain that fails to complete any of these requirements will have his/her team dropped from the wait list and must reregister during the late registration period for further consideration.
II. Late Registration Wait List Team Captains Requirements
Wait list team captains must complete the late registration captains requirements (complete the written or online quiz (if available)). A captain that fails to complete these requirements will cause his/her team to be ineligible to be placed into a league.
III. Wait List Priority Order
During the preregistration period, teams are ordered on the wait list based on the time at which they register. During the late registration period, teams are added on the wait list based on the time they complete all captains requirements. Wait list teams will be contacted regarding open positions in leagues based on this order.
IV. Team Sport Captains Meeting Placement Method
During the wait list session of the respective sport's captains meeting, wait list team captains present are provided with the opportunity to select from available openings in the league schedule. Following the wait list priority order, each wait list team's captain shall select an opening in which his/her team wishes to compete in the league. Wait list team captains (or a representative) must be present during this session to make a selection. Once all available openings are filled, wait list teams present at the meeting who did not select an opening will remain on the waiting list in the previously established order. Wait list teams that complete the other preseason captains requirements but fail to attend the wait list session will be dropped from the wait list and must reregister during the late registration period for further consideration.
V. Team Sport Post-Meeting Placement Method
Wait list teams not placed in a league during the captains meeting wait list session will be contacted to be placed into leagues as teams forfeit games/matches during the first 2 weeks of regular season play. Leagues will close at the end of the second week of regular season play. Wait list teams not contacted by this time will not be placed into a league. Players should attempt to join other teams already in the league.
VI. Individual/Dual Sports & Team Sports with Tournament Play
For individual sports and team sports with tournament play, wait list teams will be placed into the tournament bracket if a registered team drops out of the tournament prior to its first match or game. Wait list teams may also arrive at the game site and participate in the tournament in place of a team that does not show for its first match. In the event that multiple teams are waiting at the game site for an opening, the team ranked higher on the wait list will have priority. Once a team has participated in a tournament, they may not be replaced if they fail to show for a future contest.
