If you are trying to increase muscle mass, it's probably best to lay off the heavy drinking. Alcohol reduces blood flow to the muscles which causes weakness and deterioration. It also increases fat depositing and fluid retention.

Muscle Soreness
There are two types of muscle soreness: immediate soreness that you feel as you work out and delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). DOMS lasts for 48-72 hours after your workout and research has shown that it is likely due to tiny microscopic tears in muscle fibers. Anyone regardless of fitness status can experience DOMS, and so far research has shown that there is little one can do to speed up recovery. Although if done right after your workout, stretching and massage therapy can have a beneficial effect.
